Reach Higher, Think Deeper, Love Wider

World Book Day!

We celebrated World Book Day on Wednesday 6th March. This year, our chosen book was Alba the 100 Year Old Fish. This book weaves a story around the theme of ocean pollution and waste. As a result, we asked children to reduce, reuse and recycle, and to come into school in clothes that were second hand or borrowed. Alongside this, the Eco Council set up a competition, where children recycled or repurposed items to make their own outfits. We were also grateful for the support of Sue from TDEG, who came in to lead an art workshop on our story. The day was a great success, with environmental awareness being discussed deeply in all of our classes. Following on from this, we were very excited to host recycling workshops, led by Derbyshire Dales District Council, about how we can make a difference by recycling at home. They even brought along a recycling van!

At BPS, we believe that the best books are ones that make a difference within ourselves, or inspire us to make a difference to the world around us. The children (and their parents) have certainly achieved that this World Book Day!
