Bishop Pursglove C of E Primary School

Reach Higher, Think Deeper, Love Wider

Governor Profile

Meet Our Governors

Thomas Webb" - Parent Governor and Trust Appointed Governor

Chair of Governors

Andrew Farrell

Foundation Governor

I have lived in Tideswell since 2004. Both of my children attend Bishop Pursglove School. I have been a school governor since 2016. I believe it is important that all children who attend the school are given the opportunity, in a safe environment, to thrive and fulfil their potential and enjoy learning and developing as people in order that they are fully prepared for secondary education and the world beyond. The reason why I wanted to become a governor was that I felt it was important to support the staff and children in their achievements. I am a member of three committees: Leadership and Management; Teaching and Learning; and Achievement and Standards. I am a solicitor at a Manchester City Centre firm, where I advise businesses about resolving their disputes (which Bishop Pursglove School is an enjoyable contrast to).

Jill McFarlane Baxter

Foundation Governor

I was born in Sheffield and completed an Environmental Studies Degree at Sheffield Hallam University.  I was awarded the Council for the Preservation of Rural England Award for Environmental Studies for research carried out on lead mining in the Peak District, whilst doing this work I developed a love of the Derbyshire Dales.  I moved to Tideswell in 1991. I have worked as a Human Resources and Training Manager for over 25 years.  For the past 18 years I have been Group HR and Training Manager for GK Group (now trading as Perrys) , based in Chesterfield.  I am also the Company's Health and Safety Manager, being NEBOSH and IOSH qualified.  in 2002 soon after my daughter Emma commenced school at Bishop Pursglove I became a Governor, initially as an LEA appointee.  I am now a Foundation Governor, Chair the Teaching and Learning Committee, and am a member of the Leadership and Management Committee; and named governor for race and equal opportunities.  My Mum, Edith Rawson, worked as a Classroom Assistant and Midday Supervisor at Bishop Pursglove for several happy years when Emma was attending the school.

Rachel Race

Foundation Governor

As well as being a foundation governor, I'm a parent of children attending/previously attending BPS. We've lived in the village for over a decade and I was keen to become a governor to give something back, sharing the skills I've developed in a diverse career. A former economist, my current professional role is in children's social care, giving me a good understanding of safeguarding systems and practice. I believe that school communities have the potential to be transformative for children - in terms of their education, in terms of the wider skills for life they acquire and in terms of the values they absorb - and want to make a contribution to that. I share the values of the school as set out in the school vision, “Reach Higher, Think Deeper, Love Wider”, and am keen to see the school go from strength to strength.

Helen Grainger

Parent Governor

I have lived in Tideswell since 2010 and have two children who attend Bishop Pursglove School. I have previously supported the school community as Treasurer of the after-school club, and became a parent governor in January 2023. I am keen to help ensure that the school retains its reputation as a safe, successful school with happy children, and to promote its continuous improvement to help all children widen their horizons, and develop the confidence and capability to fulfil their potential.

I come from a family of teachers and have worked in the education sector for all of my professional life. I am trained in critical thinking, with a philosophical doctorate, and I have taught English in four French primary schools and French at undergraduate level. I worked as a university professional services manager for over a decade, and now work as a strategy adviser for the Department for Education.
