Remote Learning - Snow Closure (06.01.2025)
Due to today's Snow Closure of School, I am setting a piece of work to be completed relating to the End of the Second World War. This will be our last piece of work as part of our Britain At War topic.
Please use the resources and links attached below, or the Internet and other information resources you have at home, to create a fact file about Britain and the End of the Second World War. In your fact file explain about the significance of D-Day (The Normandy Landings) in June 1944, and how this helped the Allies liberate Europe from Nazi Rule by May 1945. You can also include information about the Battle of the Bulge (Hitler's last attempt at forcing the Allies backwards) or the Battle of Berlin in April/May 1945, which eventually culminated with Hitler's death and Germany's surrender (VE Day).
As part of your fact-file, you will also need to show an understanding of how Britain was affected after the Second World War (Post-War). Again use the resources attached to help you. In particular, I would like you to include information about the formation of the welfare State and the NHS.
During the topic, some of you also expressed interest in learning about the Atomic Bomb that was dropped by the USA, on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. You may include this in your fact file if you like, but you must do the research about Britain and the End of the Second World War in Europe first.
It is up to you how you present your End of the Second World War fact file. You can handwrite it on paper, do it on a Word Document or do it as a PowerPoint Presentation.
You can email your completed fact files to me at: mark.downings@bishoppursglove.derbyshire.sch.uk
or bring a hard copy of your work into school on our return.
I am really looking forward to seeing them.
Kind Regards
Mr Downings
Remote Learning (2021)
In Creativity, during our 'Frozen Kingdoms' topic, we have been learning about the Inuits and how they live in the harsh regions of the Arctic Circle.
Using the work of the artist: Kenojuak Ashevak, we have created various pieces of artwork inspired by the Inuits - which one do you like best?
As part of our 'Frozen Kingdoms' topic in Creativity, we have been looking at how Icebergs are formed. We then conducted our own experiments to investigate how Icebergs react in different types of water (Freshwater and Saltwater). We chose these types of water because Saltwater is like that seen in the world's oceans e.g. the Arctic Ocean and Southern Ocean.
