SCHOOL CLOSURE (9/1/26)
The school may be closed, but our learning carries on. I have set the following work for completion today.
Geography: In Geography, we are carrying out fieldwork throughout the year to answer the question, ‘How does the weather affect our local environment?’ Today presents a wonderful opportunity for children to make note of a winter’s day in a temperate climate zone. Have children describe the weather and how it is affecting physical (grass, trees, hills etc.) and human (pavements, buildings, traffic etc.) features. Also, write down what people are doing and wearing today. We will copy this up into our workbooks when back in school.
Maths: Times Tables, Times Tables, Times Tables. Have children practice times tables and complete the multiplication tables check several times. This will give you a great idea of where your children are at with learning times tables. Children are expected to get 25/25 by the end of Year 4. The following website does have games, which aren’t the most useful tools for learning, so I advise children to stay away from these until after they have done some times tables practice.
PE / Outdoor Learning: Go play in the snow. Throw snowballs to each other, run races, build a snowman, make snow angels. Try to get outside today, if it is safe to do so. It is important that children learn to enjoy being outside in all conditions.
English: Following some outdoor time, make a cup of hot chocolate and have children curl up with their favourite book. Remember to write in reading records and work on their individual targets. I hope to see lots of photos sent through today of children reading to their teddies, younger siblings, pets or anything that will listen.
